3 Italia Cites 719,000 DVB-H Users

By James Quintana Pearce - Thu 23 Aug 2007 05:07 PM PST

3 Italia had 719,000 people using its DVB-H service by August 22, which is about 9.4 percent of its 7.68 million customer base reports Dow Jones in Italian. There’s no figures on how many people have the 29 euro per month subscription as opposed to the shorter-term purchases. The figure is a good sign—at the beginning of June it was 600,000 and back in March it was 250,000, or about 3.7 percent of the subscriber base. One thing I would like clarified is whether people need to have used the service in a month to be considered to “be using” it—if someone watched it in March and never again are they included in the August figures? I doubt this would be the majority—3 Italia has said that the ARPU of its DVB-H users is about 60 percent higher than the ARPU for Italian mobile users, which is less than if they were all on the monthly plan but still significantly higher.
