Broadband Content Bits: Five News/MySpace; DT’s IPTV/Web; Telecom Italia Moves; Norway Gets Voom HD

By Robert Andrews - Mon 10 Mar 2008 08:32 AM PST

- Five News: In a rare online move, the fifth channel’s news show is to be carried on MySpace TV. NMA said a daily bulletin will be “co-branded” so it sounds like a custom production, though it’s likely individual news items will be chopped up and added to a Five News channel on the social net’s video site.

- Deutsche Telekom: The German telco is adding web-based programmable recording to its T-Home Entertain IPTV service. After partnering with Microsoft’s (NSDQ: MSFT) Mediaroom IPTV platform, it plans to offer PC-based photos and music via the TV interface as well as remote scheduling. Via C21.

- Telecom Italia: Berardino Libonati has been named chairman of the Italian telco’s media unit. Despite a weekend newspaper report CEO Campo Dall’Orto was due to leave, Dall’Orto is staying on, the company said. Director-general Massimo Castelli is leaving, however. Via Reuters.

- Norway: Cable TV operator Get is adding the Voom HD channel to its lineup. Voom HD Networks was shut down by owner Cablevision (NYSE: CVC) in 2004 and is now striking out to find carriage deals of its own, including as a trial service for Virgin Media’s (NSDQ: VMED) experimental next-gen broadband network.  Get’s HD service also includes HD channels from Discovery and Canal+.
