Content Bits: Joost/Meebo Chat, O2 Czech IPTV, Newspapers RSS

By Robert Andrews - Tue 06 Nov 2007 01:13 AM PST

- Joost: The P2P PC TV platform has done a deal with web-based IM chat service Meebo to offer its instant messaging facilities through the application. London-based Joost had run its own IM offering within the TV window, but will now use Meebo chatrooms to let viewers discuss programming they are watching together. A quarter of existing Meebo users already use that service whilst watching TV, the company reckons. Meebo allows people to use a range of IM protocols as well as a Meebo account. (Via release).

- O2: The mobile telco’s IPTV service in the Czech Republic added 16,000 customers in Q3, taking it past the 60,000 mark, according to a press release (via DM Europe). O2 had added 12,000 in the previous quarter and it’s just added new sports and movies channels and struck a deal to add Disney (NYSE: DIS) VOD programming. The platform has 50 channels and is available to 70 percent of the country.

- RSS: Guardian Unlimited, FT.com, The Times and Telegraph.co.uk are the most-read British newspaper sites by RSS, according to an informal analysis of Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Reader subscriptions conducted by ex-BBC online producer Martin Belam. The Guardian is the biggest hitter with 111,949 subscriptions, but the middle to lower end of the market has hardly any subscribers - Scotland On Sunday on three, Daily Record and Daily Star on two and the Daily Express with none at all.
