Broadband Content Bits: Warner Accelerates VOD, Orange Premium TV

By Robert Andrews - Mon 07 Apr 2008 12:15 AM PST

- Warner Bros: The movie studio is to make some films available over VOD platforms the same day they go on sale as DVDs. The studio is giving Sky Box Office, Virgin Media (NSDQ: VMED), BT (NYSE: BT) Vision and XBox Live customers 24-hour access to the flicks for £3.95. Hollywood trade mag Variety says it’s the first time VOD/DVD releases have been synchronised in the UK and follows trials in the US, and northern Europe.

- Orange: The telco used MipTV to announce Cinéma Séries, a multiplatform roster of premium TV and movie content. The initiative will come as a subscription to Orange TV, internet and mobile customers in Frane from Q4 and features TV from WB and HBO plus movies from Fidélité and Gaumont. Orange will also plug gaps in its TV-over-broadband service through a deal with GlobeCast and Eutelsat to deliver over satellite.
