Celeb Bits: MySpace Scene Junkie; Virgin/Popbitch Trade Radio Ambitions

By Robert Andrews - Mon 05 May 2008 03:19 PM PST

Catching up on news from the Bank Holiday weekend and the end of last week…

-- MySpace: The social net has unveiled a UK version of its Scene Junkie entertainment channel - “the place where we show off the most interesting people on MySpace – from the glitziest film stars to the hottest properties in pop to the edgiest undiscovered talent who are leading the way in new fashion, art, photography, film, writing, comedy, music or promoting”. The site includes content feeds from News Corp (NYSE: NWS) stablemate The Sun’s Bizarre column and from Pop Justice, as well as a fan photo wall and a map on which users can geo-locate celeb sightings.

-- Popbitch: Celeb culture community Popbitch has now added a “radio” station to its website. RadioPopbitch includes 20,000 tracks from which users can create custom playlists. There’s also a wine-tasting show, Planet Of The Grapes. Via mad.co.uk.

-- Virgin Radio: While Popbitch plays up its radio credentials, rock station Virgin Radio has started a weekly online TV show, Punch Drunk, as part of a plan to become “a multi-media network as opposed to a radio station”. Further to our write-up last week It’s the latest dedicated online production from Endemol, which has also made Bebo’s The Gap Year and O2’s Cell. In-video ads and brand partnerships are due and Virgin hopes to follow Punch Drunk with a gadget show. Via mad.co.uk.
