Channel Five In UK Fined $600K For Participation TV Practices

UK’s Channel Five has been fined 300,000 pounds (US$600,000) by regulator Ofcom for some dodgy participation TV practices… “The fine relates to events last March when it was revealed that Endemol subsidiary Cheetah TV had deliberately misled viewers by pretending that certain people had won on-air competitions in its Brainteaser gameshow, after no real winners could be found in the allotted time” reports C21 Media. Considering the participation TV industry (voting, sweepstakes, etc) is one of the big money-spinners for the mobile industry it is important to maintain public trust in the services—whether this will do that is another question…
