-- Saga Zone: Saga, the insurance and holiday company, has launched a social networking Web site, Saga Zone, aimed at seniors, writes Dianne See Morrison. After four months in beta mode, the site has already signed on 13,000 members or “Zoners”, as they are called. Much like other social networking sites, Saga Zone allows subscribers to add their own detailed profiles, write a blog, or discuss any number of topics in its forums. The site has already drummed up business for Saga’s holiday arm, after 16 Zoners organized a Saga holiday to Malta via the site’s message boards. Sites aimed at American baby boomers have struggled to gain traction. In September, senior site Eons, launched by Monster.com founder Jeff Taylor, laid off a third of its staff, finding it hard to compete in a market that already includes sites Boomertown and Rezoom. http://www.saga.co.uk/money/retirement/saga-zone.asp” title="release">release
-- Bebo: Social networking site Bebo has hooked up with reality television producer Endemol UK to launch an online reality series. “The Gap Year” will follow six Bebo users as they travel around the world. The three men and three women will be chosen from the Bebo community after an interactive audition process. The contestants will chart their travels online. Other Bebo users will be able vote in weekly polls that will have a direct impact on how their travels unravel. A half hour catch-up show will also be broadcast each week on the site. Bebo has signed on for other online dramas, most notably KateModern, the UK spin-off of Lonleygirl15 from LG15 Studios.
