EC Clears Sony BMG Merger, Again
By James Quintana Pearce - Wed 03 Oct 2007 07:32 AM PST
The European Commission has cleared for a second time the 2004 merger that created Sony (NYSE: SNE)BMG, with no conditions or remedies. The clearance was annulled by Europe’s Court of First Instance, but a second review found “no evidence of co-ordinated behaviour prior to the merger or as a result of it”—it also looked at the market in the years since the merger to find out whether any competition concerns were raised. The indies lobbyist group Impala “called for a formal enquiry and said it may appeal the ruling and claim damages against the Commission” reports FT.
