Filmklik Sells Stake To Form Euro VOD Platform

By Robert Andrews - Thu 03 Jul 2008 09:51 AM PST

A new eastern European VOD movie venture is in the offering. One of the region’s movie distributors, A Company, has acquired 25.1 in Hungarian VOD platform Filmklik.hu, with the intention of making it in to a “pan-European” operation.

Senator Entertainment, another distributor, already bought 25 percent of the operation in February. Now the pair intend to build Filmklik.eu to distribute films in to homes digitally. They are aiming to build an “independent VOD network” in central and eastern Europe”, they tell Variety.

Meanwhile, also in VOD, but here in the UK, the BBC is planning to assuage ISPs’ iPlayer cost concerns further by delivering shows to viewers’ computers “at the optimum time for the user, the UK internet and the BBC” - more than likely, at night. Shows would be send to machines even before they have been broadcast, though they would not be playable until after transmission, C21 writes. Right now, it’s a proposal to the ever-vigilant BBC Trust.
