That’s it. France will officially endorsed its three-strikes-and-your-out music piracy proposal and will introduce the measure in January. The measure, by which ISPs will agree to send three notices to those who illegally share copyrighted music content before disconnecting them, was advocated by culture minister Christine Albanel under president Sarkozy’s wide-ranging media reform plans.

To enact the policy, France will create the High Authority for Copyright Protection and Dissemination of Works on the Internet (Hadopi), with budget of up to 15 million euros annually, to coordinate sending of notices to transgressors, who may be barred from their ISPs for up to a year. Opposition in France is centreing on the possibility that customers could be indicted merely because they leave their WiFi connections open, said Times Online’s Paris correspondent.
