HMV Trialling Social Net To Broaden Online Appeal

Music and book retailer HMV (LSE: HMV) is trialling its social networking site with 1,000 users prior to its offical launch in September, reports the telegraph.co.uk. Code named “Get Closer,” the new site is being used to broaden the retailer’s appeal to the internet from the high street, where its shops have seen declining sales in CDs. The site will allow users to import music and film files to create their own library. Users will be connected to other users with similar tastes to create “spider clouds” around artists, genres, or films they share in common. The site will be ad-funded and will also take users to HMV’s online store.
