Industry Moves: AOL Re-Appoints Sales Director; GCap CEO Talk

By Robert Andrews - Tue 27 Nov 2007 06:30 AM PST

- AOL: The musical chairs amongst Britain’s online ad sales execs continues. Duncan George, who quit as GCap commercial director a day before the radio group reported a big annual profit plunge in May, will next week resurface as AOL (NYSE: TWX) sales director, Media Week says. George had helped create GCap’s interactive division in February but the group hired Yahoo’s Robin Pembrooke to a beefed-up online role in July. The AOL role opened up when Giles Ivey left to become The Times’ first digital commercial director in October. George comes on board as AOL attempts to survive as an ad-supported content provider, after selling off its European ISP businesses.

- GCap: Coming in to the radio group? No attribution but The Guardian reckons headhunters have targeted all manner of disparate candidates to fill outgoing CEO Malcolm Wall’s shoes… Virgin Media’s (NSDQ: VMED) Malcolm Wall (after having only recently joined as CEO of the content-making VMtv division), Blyk UK boss Shaun Gregory (who only quit as Telegraph development director a month ago) and Google (NSDQ: GOOG) UK sales director Mark Howe. Our bet? Current GCap London MD Fru Hazlitt.
