Industry Moves: Indie Interactive Chief Withey Leaving

By Robert Andrews - Mon 10 Dec 2007 12:53 PM PST

Independent News & Media’s global interactive media director Richard Withey is leaving on Wednesday after eight years with the company, publisher of The Independent and The Belfast Telegraph. He will remain a consultant to INM and will work with other organisations, too. In two decades working on digital newspaper strategy, Withey spent 12 years at News International, where he was new media director for seven, overseeing the launch of national newspaper websites and ventures with LineOne. He set up the fledgling Independent Digital in 1999 and, from an MD position within the unit, was given a global remit three years later. Here’s the Wayback Machine’s snapshot of Independent.co.uk’s evolution over his tenure. The website is due for a relaunch before Christmas.
