- iVillage: Women’s portal iVillage has hired former IPC online exec Rebecca Miskin as the new general manager of UK operations, Media Week reports. At IPC, Miskin had been international publisher, intellectual property director and business development director for IPC Electric (the publisher’s internet exploration fund circa 1999) and its digital titles. At iVillage, she’ll report directly to president Deborah Fine. NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) bought iVillage for $600 million in May 2006.
The women’s online content market is really hotting up now that more women are now online in the UK than men and spend more time on the net, according to Ofcom research published last month (via BusinessWeek)…
-- iVillage rival Handbag.com continues to enjoy a strong following, with 1.4 million users in May (ABCe returns).
-- Osoyou.com, the women’s fashion portal launched by ex-Emap (LSE: EMA) MD Dawn Bébe was launched this month.
-- IPC is planning to pool content from Women’s Weekly, Now and Woman’s Own in its own forthcoming women’s portal (and earlier this year launched HouseToHome with articles from Living etc, Ideal Home and Homes & Gardens and more).
-- Emap this month announced plans to pool content from Grazia, Heat, Closer and First in a new women’s portal (it’s also planning a fashion portal based on its Drapers, Pop, Premier Kids, Pure Women show and WGSN.com brands).
- Commission Junction: Ex head of ITV (LSE: ITV).com Colin Elms has joined affiliate marketing operator Commission Junction as European client development director (via NetImperative). Elms leaves his post as advertising, sponsorship and e-commerce affiliate director at 365 Media Group, which he joined after a stint as head of ITV.com, overseeing its previous redesign (not the one undergone this summer).
