Industry Moves: Lask From HMV To UMG, Sky News Changes

By Robert Andrews - Mon 04 Aug 2008 10:10 AM PST

-- Universal: After relaunching HMV.com and setting up its still-in-beta social net GetCloser, HMV (LSE: HMV) e-commerce director Gideon Lask is leaving to be business development SVP at Universal Music from autumn-time. He tells NMA he wants to do “some really exciting, transformational stuff” with the world’s biggest label.

-- Sky News: Not so much a move, but some redefinitions as Sky News goes down the integrated newsroom route from September 29. Exec editor Chris Birkett will lead a combined TV, online, radio and interactive division; assistant editor Peter Lowe will oversee SkyNews.com, Active and radio producers; Steve Bennedik will head a new technology unit. The channel pledges no job losses and Sky News head John Ryley says: “We need to accelerate the pace of change into digital media.” Via Guardian.
