Irish Times To Drop Subscription Wall; Will Move News Site From Ireland.com

By Rafat Ali - Sun 08 Jun 2008 01:20 PM PST

Irish Times, which went subscription for its online site Ireland.com in 2003, is now ready to scrap the charges. It is also moving its news-related content to a new website IrishTimes.com, instead of the current Ireland.com home, reports Post.IE. Ireland.com will function as a stand-alone ‘‘portal’’ site, with considerably more video content, according to the story...this transition will happen by Sept.  The site charges 79 Euros for a yearly subscription.

Recently the company said Ireland.com site had fewer than 10,000 subscribers and was struggling to break even.
