Mobile Content Bits: iPhone 3G Demand, Iliad Buys Alice, Yahoo Serves 3 UK

-- iPhone Demand In UK Overwhelms O2 Site: It’s four days before Apple’s iPhone goes on sale in the UK, and it looks like mobile operator O2, may not be prepared for the demand. The operator’s website was quickly “overwhelmed”, flashing an error message and directing customers to call in by telephone.

-- French Telecom Firm Iliad Takes $1.6 Billion Loan To Buy Rival Alice: French telecom group Iliad, which owns Europe’s largest IPTV operator Free, has taken out a syndicated loan for a little over 1 billion euros (£791.85 million), to help finance their purchase of Alice, Italia Telecom’s competing internet TV player in France.

-- Yahoo to run 3 UK’s mobile ads: Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) has inked a deal to exclusively sell banners and sponsored link inventory on 3 UK’s content portal, with the first ads going live later this month.
