- Trinity Mirror: The newspaper group will launch a multi-platform mobile service to eventually deliver regional news that could be tailored to a user’s post code (via Media Week). Recently appointed group head of interactive Rick Gleave said it was important to offer advertisers a multi-platform service. Trinity Mirror (LSE: TNI) plans to start with its larger titles, including the Daily Mirror and will focus on games and horoscopes before it offers up the news. The site will “probably” be funded by on-screen advertising, though paid for content has not been ruled out.
- Three: The mobile operator will relaunch its portal Planet 3 to satisfy the burgeoning demand for mobile advertising among brands (via Media Week). Head of advertising at Three Neil Andrews said Planet 3 currently did not have the inventory to satisfy advertisers. Starting next month, it will have up to five times its current inventory. It has also picked up Lloyds TSB, its first major brand, to run an upcoming mobile video advertising campaign.
- Nokia: Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has reached an agreement with EMI record label Parlaphone to sell Kylie’s latest album “X” via the handset maker’s new online music store for £8 on November 2 - five days ahead of its official release. This is the first time one of the singer’s albums will be available digitally before its general release. (Release)
- Orange: The network has agreed to a deal with wireless broadband provider The Cloud to offer business customers access to more than 7,500 extra WiFi hotspots. Orange already offers hotspots through BT, (NYSE: BT) its parent company France Telecom (NYSE: FTE) and WeRoam (via Dow Jones). The service is available through Orange’s Business Everywhere mobile data card service.
