MySpace Pokes Through The Cloud; Free On Premium WiFi Net

By Robert Andrews - Thu 07 Aug 2008 09:00 AM PST

Commercial WiFi provider The Cloud is doing another carrot-and-stick deal with a content site. Though time on a Cloud hotspot (available in 7,000 bars and cafes across the UK) costs from a whopping £4.50 per hour, the network has lifted the barrier to MySpace, allowing users of the News Corp (NYSE: NWS) site to check the social network for free. The Cloud did a similar deal with BBC News back in October - but that’s public-service content, no wonder it’s available for free. The deal will only run to October, however - it’s a promotion in which branding and multimedia content from MySpace will feature on The Cloud’s wireless landing pages; reciprocally, The Cloud will be promo’d on the social net.
