MySpace UK To Launch “Hyper Targeted” Ads

In a bid to give British advertisers “more bang for their buck,” social network MySpace is rolling out a new advertising system in the UK that targets users based on the personal information they have supplied on their profile pages, reports the Guardian. Travis Katz, SVP and international GM at News Corp.’s MySpace said this style of “hyper targeted” advertising was already very effective and popular with advertisers in America. Basically, MySpace’s new system studies the profile pages in order to “bucket” people into “enthusiast” groups, which then allows advertisers to create more relevant campaigns. Katz, speaking at MediaGuardian.co.uk’s Changing Media Summit today, said that their had not been any backlash over the new system. “On the contrary,” he said, “Users like it as long as it is relevant and presented in an engaging way.”
