Penguin To Test DRM-Free Audio Books

By Robert Andrews - Tue 04 Mar 2008 06:12 AM PST

Picking up from yesterday’s Pearson earnings, the company said its Penguin book publisher would follow the decision by Bertelsmann’s Random House last week to drop DRM from its audio books. Pearson (NYSE: PSO) CEO Marjorie Scardino: “I don’t think we can be worried about every incursion from electronic selling and electronic use. We have got to think about what the future is going to be and look at how to experiment with it.” She said she’s “still waiting” for a gadget to do for textual digital books what iPod did for music (via Guardian). Random House dropped the requirement for DRM locks on its audio books from March 1.
