Qualcomm’s MediaFLO Launches Euro 2008 Channel

By Tricia Duryee - Tue 10 Jun 2008 09:28 PM PST

MediaFLO said it launched a special TV station today called EURO to broadcast live video coverage of the 2008 UEFA European Soccer Championship until June 29. The channel will feature 21 games and and cover 16 teams. Currently, MediaFLO is available through Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) and AT&T (NYSE: T) phones. The ability to launch a channel for this tournament for a limited time shows the flexibility of the network. But to pick such a European focused-event, makes me wonder if this goes back to rumors of MediaFLO going to the UK. In May, Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) won a swath of spectrum in the UK, which at the time it declined to say what it intends to do with it.
