France Telecom and Warner Team Up Regarding Content

France Telecom has signed a deal with Warner Music to offer its clients Warner’s music over its fixed, and mobile networks. Under the agreement, France Telecom will distribute Warner Music’s catalogue through its offers in France (including Orange, Wanadoo and the fixed line network), Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. The companies have agreed to jointly investigate the development of new music products and services, including working on content protection solutions, with support from Viaccess, a France Telecom subsidiary.
Which is all great, but as this Ovum piece points out, “the question is whether or not integrated operators can broker content deals over multiple delivery platforms that actually amount to something weighty and meaningful, putting them ahead of the competition. “
