Industry Moves: AOL: Dhir Promoted To EVP, International; Rowley Retires, Dunne New Head AOL Europe

By Staci D. Kramer - Mon 22 Jan 2007 06:59 AM PST

AOL’s new leadership of Randy Falco and Ron Grant has a new top international team. Maneesh Dhir, most recently SVP and country manager-India, is EVP-international, a new position reporting directly to president and COO Grant. Joe Redling, who had been chairman & CEO, AOL International among other responsibilities, is one of the top executives who left the company following Falco’s replacement of Jon Miller as chairman and CEO. In the reorganization implemented by Falco and Grant, international became one of six business units and shifted from reporting directly to the top.
Working from Bangalore, India, Dhir will be responsible for new overseas business development in Europe, Asia and the Americas. This marks the first time AOL has had a top executive for international based anywhere but Dulles. Prior to his current role in India, Dhir was VP and GM of Netscape.
-- At AOL Europe, Philip Rowley is retiring as chairman and CEO; that possibility has been in the cards for several months. Dana Dunne joins the company as head of AOL Europe. Dunne most recently was president of Belgacom, a major Belgian telecom company. Previously, he was president of US West International and was in McKinsey & Co.’s European telecom practice. Rowley, who took on the role of CEO in December when Carlo d’Asaro Biondo left after only six weeks, will work with Dhir and Dunne for several months during the transition. As our readers well know, AOL’s strategy in Europe underwent a major turnaround during Miller’s last year at the helm of AOL, switching from an ISP to an audience business.
For those of you keeping track, top slots at platforms and marketing are left to be filled.
