RyanAir Aims To Offer In-Flight Mobile Gambling

By James Quintana Pearce - Thu 02 Nov 2006 07:00 PM PST

European discount airline RyanAir is planning to offer mobile gambling on their flights, pending regulatory approval of mobile phones on airplanes, and assumedly there’ll be some regulations around the gambling as well. “Passengers will be able to use their mobile phones and other handheld devices on flights to have a flutter playing Ryanair’s online bingo and a number of other instant-win games offering jackpots in excess of £200,000.” The company is already offering gambling on its website, and giving a free ticket to people who try the system out. I’m not sure how good an idea this is, but I can see the attraction for RyanAir, which will want to increase its average revenue per user while still offering discount airfares. And mobile wallpapers of the RyanAir logo just won’t cut it… (via TechDirt)
